How do I choose between point and open-path gas detection?

Point detectors are best where a leak source is known and localized (a flange, pump seal, or compressor). Open-path detectors cover perimeters, fence lines, and large open areas with a single beam, catching a gas cloud that might drift between point sensors. Many facilities combine both.

Which sensor detects hydrogen sulfide (H2S)?

The Detcon 700 series shares one transmitter across field-interchangeable sensors, so you match the sensor to the target gas: IR-700-CH for combustible and IR-700-CO2 for CO2 (infrared), FP-700 for combustible, TP-700 for H2S and toxics, DM-700 for oxygen and toxics, and PI-700 for VOCs. Do these gas detectors require calibration?

Yes. Fixed gas detectors are calibrated on a schedule with a known test gas to keep readings accurate. PE Energy supplies certified calibration kits (such as the GT3000 and CGS combustible kits) and accessories so a site can maintain its own compliance program.
