Which P100 filters fit half-face and full-face respirators for oil and gas work?

Under 42 CFR 84.170, N-series filters are restricted to workplaces free of oil aerosols, while P-series filters are intended for any particulate, including oil-based liquid particulates, and P100 filters must reach 99.97 percent minimum efficiency. The 7580P100 carries NIOSH P100 approvals on the 5500 and 7700 half masks and the 5400 and 7600 full facepieces.

  • Particulates only: the approval label describes a particulate filter effective against all particulate aerosols. Gases and vapors need a cartridge, such as the 7581P100L organic vapor cartridge with P100 filter on the cartridge and filter chart.
  • Not for every atmosphere: the label rules out atmospheres containing less than 19.5 percent oxygen and atmospheres immediately dangerous to life or health.
  • Change-out: follow the manufacturer’s User’s Instructions for changing filters.

7580P100 vs 75FFP100: which North P100 filter should you order?

Both carry the same P100 rating on the cartridge and filter chart. The 75FFP100 is a low profile P100 filter that uses the N750035 adaptor to mount on gas and vapor cartridges, and the 75FFP100NL adds odor relief from nuisance levels of organic vapors, acid gases and ozone. For the 7580P100, the chart lists shower caps: N750029 against decontamination spray and N750029C, which also guards against welding and grinding sparks.

Where can I buy North P100 filters for 5500 and 7600 series respirators?
