What is the Parmelee 70115?

The Parmelee 70115 (G1 1 IPS) is a G1 girth for 1″ IPS (iron pipe size) pipe, which has a 1.315 in. outside diameter. The girth is the 3-piece head of the Parmelee pipe wrench that grips the pipe, tube or rod 360 degrees around its outside diameter. It mounts on the H1 light gauge handle (Parmelee 71001), sold separately.

The Parmelee wrench (sometimes spelled Parmalee), also called pipe tongs or a friction wrench, has no teeth: this girth closes around the work 360 degrees and does not mar polished pipe or piston rods.

The girth of the No. 1 wrench is drop forged steel, toughened and hardened by heat treatment. Standard girths like this one have a polished finish.

It is made for 1″ IPS pipe, which has a 1.315 in. outside diameter under the ASME B36.10 standard pipe sizes. Parmelee makes a separate girth for each diameter, and a girth cannot be used on any other diameter. For tubing or rod known by its measured outside diameter, use an OD girth.
