Heavy-duty earthmoving and mining machinery operates under some of the most punishing mechanical stresses in modern industry. Equipment like draglines, shovels, drills, and rolling stock are subjected to constant shock loads, environmental contaminants, and extreme temperature swings. To keep these multi-million dollar assets running without unscheduled stoppages, operators must select specialized lubricants. The Whitmore Caliber line of extreme pressure (EP) and heavy-duty greases is formulated specifically to meet these demands.

How do Whitmore Caliber 3M and 5M prevent bearing wear?

When should you choose Whitmore Caliber 460M or Caliber Blue?

Different mining and industrial applications present distinct operational profiles that call for specialized grease formulations. For heavy earthmoving machinery requiring certification by major OEMs, Whitmore Caliber 460M is a robust EP lithium complex grease containing molybdenum disulfide. Caliber 460M is certified by Bucyrus International (Caterpillar) for heavy-duty ball, roller, and plain bearings, and is approved for use in central lubrication systems for Komatsu PC3000, PC4000, PC5500, and PC8000 series excavators. It operates reliably in temperatures ranging from 23F (-5C) up to 340F (170C), though re-lubrication frequency must be increased at sustained temperatures above 185F (85C).

In contrast, Whitmore Caliber Blue EP utilizes a proprietary technology called SL-Tech™. This light-colored, non-hazardous solid lubricant blend provides a protective cushion that delivers greater extreme pressure properties than traditional MoS2 or graphite.
